Transform Your Smile With Calumet Dental
Any dental procedures that involve improving the appearance of your smile, such as your teeth, gums or bite are referred to as cosmetic dentistry. Maybe you have crooked teeth and want to make them straight? Or your teeth as not as white and bright as they used to be, all these treatments that change the color or position of your teeth fall into this type of dentistry.
Treatments like teeth whitening to improve the color of your teeth, veneers, porcelain crowns and bridges to fix the appearance of your teeth. Here at Calumet Dental we understand the importance of a bright and white smile that is why we offer a wide range of services. We want our patients to be completely happy with their smiles, so we offer Smile Makeovers and also orthodontic services to help you get straight beautiful teeth.
As we age our teeth start to become dull because we are more exposed to liquids that stain our teeth. Our teeth are not smooth-surfaced, they are porous and dark liquids such as wine and coffee can absorb into the tooth and cause stains. Having poor oral hygiene can also further stain your teeth. Over the counter products take a few months to show results, however, other products specially in-office teeth whitening procedures can give you the immediate results you are looking for.
In little over an hour, you can walk out of the office and have white, bright teeth that can completely change the appearance of your smile. Gels are usually used in office procedures; they are made out of fluoride and bleaching agents that penetrate the tooth from the inside and break down the molecules that are staining your teeth. Finally, a light will accelerate the bleaching process and allow you to see immediate results.
Veneers are wafer thin; custom-made shells of tooth-colored material that cover the surface of the teeth to help improve the appearance. If you have a chipped tooth, or one that is discolored, stained or just needs to be fixed, a veneer can help you with this. Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and create the thin sheets that will cover your tooth. They are custom made and crafted carefully to blend and go well with your other teeth. Once the veneer has been created, on your second visit the doctor will shave off the surface of your tooth to allow for the veneer to fit in and not be bulky. A bonding agent is the placed over the tooth to help bond the veneer to the tooth; a special light will then cure the veneer and complete the process.
Porcelain Crowns and Bridges
These prosthetic devices, similar to veneers, are fixed to your tooth. Crowns and bridges are cemented onto your existing tooth or implant which can only be removed by a doctor. A crown acts like a hat or "cap" over the tooth to entirely cover it. It is also used to strengthen the tooth and improve the appearance of it. They are made out of porcelain which is a material that can replicate the color of your tooth to give it a natural look.
On the other hand, bridges might be recommended in the case that you are missing one or several teeth. The gaps that are created when a tooth is lost can cause the other teeth to rotate or change a position that is why it is important to replace that tooth with an implant. The tooth that fills the gap is called a pontic and the bridges are cemented to your natural teeth which are called abutments that will anchor the bridge going over the pontic.
Also known as the quick fix and easiest of procedures, composite bonding requires very little invasion. Compared to other procedures, bonding uses a resin, the color of your teeth, which is called composite and then it is fixed, shaped and molded to fix the shape of your tooth. It is a great procedure to help fix chips, fractured teeth or decay. It can also be put over your teeth to cover discoloring.
